5 Things To Do In Case Of A Car Lockout

People have their fair share of unlucky days when they feel like everything’s not going right. And, to top it off, after having a very stressful day, you realize that your car keys have been locked in. Perhaps, you’re in a rush and got distracted; this situation happens even to the best of people. Although a car lockout may be familiar to many people (don’t blame yourself if it happens to you, too), there are things you can do in such a situation.

This blog post will provide insightful advice on what to do when you experience a car lockout. Fortunately, with the advent of car technology, many newer cars come with ‘digital keys’ and may no longer require you to bring actual car keys. However, for most of you who use and drive conventional cars, read this article and know the best steps to take when caught up in a car lockout.

Here are some tips and tricks you can do:

  • Check Out All The Car’s Doors

So, you realize you’ve locked your car keys inside. Before you go into full panic mode, remind yourself to breathe and stay calm. This situation happens sometimes, so cut yourself some slack and do the first step instead. You can begin by checking all of your car’s doors and windows. Chances are you may have left a tiny gap from the windows in which you can use your hand to reach into the lock inside. Or, maybe, a door was improperly locked due to its faulty function. Remember, however, that you need to have them fixed and replaced after retrieving your car keys to avoid theft and break-ins.

Depending on the car model you own, your car might have a hatchback, where you can possibly try to unlock all doors through the trunk. Although this might just have a slim chance, who knows, your car may be built to work with uniformed locks from the compartment.

Vehicle Lockout: Common Situations and Tips to Avoid Them

If you haven’t found yourself in a vehicle lockout situation, count yourself lucky – for the moment. Because sooner or later, you will; Every driver does. According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), over 4 million Americans find themselves locked out of their car each year.

Car lockout situations go way beyond just locking your keys inside the car – the most frustrating scenario. Multiple other unforeseen circumstances can lead to such precarious situations. And once you are stuck outside a perfectly working but LOCKED vehicle, your only option is to call a lockout service near me.

Anyway, getting yourself acquainted with the common car lockout scenarios might help you prevent them in the first place. Or at the least, allow you to deal with the annoying situation more efficiently. So, let’s take a look at the most common vehicle lockout situations you might find yourself in.

If you haven’t found yourself in a vehicle lockout situation, count yourself lucky – for the

COMMON VEHICLE LOCKOUT SITUATIONS

  1. Locking your keys inside the car

It is stupid yet the most common car lockout situation. It often happens when you are in a hurry. For instance, you are already late to work; then there is the never-ending traffic. Anyhow you reach your office, turn off the engine, get out of the vehicle, and pause to take a deep breath before heading inside. And that’s when it hit you; your car keys aren’t jingling in your pocket. Instead, there they are, lying on the passenger seat, and the car is locked.Likewise, most people leave their car running while they get some snacks from the stop-shop or grab important stuff from the trunk, only to realize the door locked automatically.

  1. Losing the keys at home or work

Almost all of us have been there. If not the car keys, we definitely have lost a few other important keys once in our lives. So, we know the frustration.

When you misplace your vehicle keys inside your house, there is a chance you might find them in some drawer or maybe under the table. However, things get even more disappointing when you realize you lost the keys at work or somewhere on the road. In that case, miserably following your footsteps or searching your office might be a waste of time. A better option is to hire a vehicle lockout service near me to get a duplicate key.

7 Ways To Protect Your Home While You’re On Vacation

Your suitcase is packed, you’ve lined up a rental car, and you’ve arranged for a neighbor to feed your pets and water your plants. But while preparing for your long-awaited vacation, did you remember to take the precautions necessary to keep your home safe while you’re away? Here are seven ways to ensure that your abode stays disaster- and burglary-free while you’re gone.

1. Make Sure It Looks Like Someone’s Home …

To avoid becoming another crime statistic, take steps to make sure it looks like someone’s still at home. Set timers on lights, radios, and televisions so they’ll automatically turn on at varied times during the morning and evening. Make sure your grass is freshly cut. Have someone park their car in your empty driveway. Position window blinds and curtains like normal—just make sure they aren’t exposing expensive home furnishings or appliances. And while you’re at it, ask a neighbor to collect your mail for you, and arrange to stop your newspaper delivery.

2. … But Don’t Forget To Lock Up.

It’s a no-brainer to lock all your doors before going on vacation, but don’t neglect to secure other openings, like pet doors or mail slots, to prevent burglars from reaching in with a tool and unlocking the door. And if you have an automatic garage door, consider disconnecting the electronic opener and placing a padlock on the garage-door track instead. Smart locks can help you control the entry to your house remotely.

3. Watch What You Share On Social Media.

We know, we know: It’s super tempting to share details or photos of your vacation via social media posts. But even though you’re making all your friends jealous with that barely-filtered picture of a bright blue lagoon, you’re also revealing to potential thieves that you’re far away from home.

To keep burglars at bay, refrain from publicly sharing any details of your trip until you return. If you can’t resist, here’s a compromise: Remove geotags from social media posts with a metadata removal tool, or switch off the geotagging feature on your phone. Also, make sure your sharing settings are switched to private or “Friends Only.”

4. Enlist Your Neighbors.

Tell a trusted neighbor that you’ll be gone for a while, and ask them to keep an eye on your house. Instruct them to call the authorities if they see anything suspicious or dangerous-looking occurring on the premises. And for worst-case scenarios, provide them with your vacation contact and a spare key.

5. Contact Your Alarm Company (Or Fool Burglars Into Thinking You Have One).

Having an alarm system installed in your home can bring you more than peace of mind; it could also help you qualify for an extra discount on homeowners insurance.

Don’t have an alarm system? Fool burglars by hanging fake security company signs, and if you want to go all out, consider installing fake security cameras.

Security For Apartments

It is important to protect your home. Even when you reside in an apartment, you have the right to feel safe and to have security solutions that you are confident in. What are some options for security for apartments? That is something we are going to discuss here. We encourage contacting a mobile locksmith company for security and lock services. This is going to ensure efficient installation of products.

Find out more by reading here!

As a renter, you might not have as many options for adding security to your home. However, there are services and products to take advantage of that can be advantageous whether you are in an apartment building or even a townhome.

First things first, you might want to consider checking the crime rates in the area you are going to be renting. There are neighborhood groups on social media that can be very informative regarding what is happening in the neighborhood, too!

You might want to consider a ring doorbell camera. This is just one way to have eyes on what is going on outside your front door. This can be very advantageous if you ever need video evidence or if you just want to know who is at your front door before you open it. As a matter of fact, you can speak through the ring doorbell camera so it can sound as though you are right on the other side of the front door. This is just one way to protect a property.

Think about outdoor lighting and lighting inside of the property. If you are gone for extended periods of time, you might want to consider having lighting set on a timer. This can make it appear as though you are home. However, you might want to consider outdoor lighting, too. Perhaps use a motion sensor light so if someone enters your property, you can see them, and so can neighbors!

Be aware of points of entry into the home. Whether you have an apartment or a single-family house, it is important to have working locks. These are appropriate for windows, patio doors, garage doors and of course the front door. When checking for lock condition, notice if there are any broken security features such as a fence.

Other options to consider for a renter include – a peephole, key codes for entry, cameras, and a chain lock. Know where any emergency exits are. Once you have security products that you trust, don’t forget to get renters insurance.

It is important to protect your home. Even when you reside in an apartment, you have the right to feel safe and to have security solutions that you trust. What are some options for security for apartments? That is something we have discussed here. We encourage contacting a mobile locksmith company for security and lockservices, as a locksmith is going to be adept when it comes to security camera installation, locks for windows, doors and more.

What To Do If You Get Locked Out Of Your House

Home security is of utmost importance to most homeowners, but what about a reverse situation where you can’t get into your own house? Getting locked out of the house is annoying and frustrating. It only happens at the most inconvenient times, too—like when it’s raining, or when you have a terrible headache and the child you just picked up from school needs to use the bathroom now. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do to get that door unlocked in a timely manner (even if your key is a goner).

6 Things to Try if You’re Locked out of Your House

1. Call Another Household Member If your husband, wife, kids, roommate, etc. are not locked out along with you, chances are they have a key. This is the simplest solution, and the one everyone hopes they can pull off before taking more extreme measures.

2. Track Down a Friend or Family Member With a Spare Key Did you remember to get your key back from the person who took care of your cat and houseplants last time you went on vacation? If not, send them an SOS text. Unless they are busy watering someone else’s plants, they’ll probably be more than happy to dash over to help you unlock the door.

3. Rent? Call the Landlord Do you rent your home or live in an apartment? If so, you are in luck. Your landlord or the apartment manager most definitely has a key to your place.

4. Call a Locksmith If time is of the essence (or you just don’t want to mess around), this is the way to go. A locksmith can unlock your door in a matter of minutes, and they can do it without causing any unnecessary damage to your door. Be prepared, though, to pay an average of $156 or maybe even more depending on where you live or the time of day you call (a locksmith is probably going to charge a little extra to come to your assistance in the wee hours). Not sure where to turn for locksmith services? Recommendations from people that you trust are best, but if none of your friends can offer a referral, try looking for a certified one online (the Associated Locksmiths of America allows you to search by zip code on their website). Also, make sure they have any necessary licenses, if it is required in your state (15 states have this requirement).

5. Check for an Open Window or Back Door While you should never leave doors and windows unlocked when you leave the house (unlocked doors and windows are a common entry point for burglars), if you are locked out it never hurts to check, just in case. If this does the trick, that’s great. Just be sure to do a sweep through the house once you are back inside to make sure nothing is missing (and next time, check for open windows and doors before you leave).

6. Break in This should really be a last resort—breaking in can look sketchy to anyone walking by who doesn’t know you. However, if you can’t track down a key and you can’t find a locksmith, it might be your best bet. How you do this will differ depending on the type of lock and the type of doorknob you have, but if you have a credit card (or even some bobby pins) it is possible. Once you are in? Make sure you come up with a plan for any future lockouts, and make sure said plan does not involve breaking and entering.

What Not to Do if You Are Locked Out of Your House

Now that you know what you should do if you are locked out of your house, it is a good idea to learn about the things you should avoid doing, too. First of all, don’t throw a rock through a window or kick down your door. You could wind up injured, and you will definitely end up with a repair bill to pay (it is better to just pay the locksmith). Also, don’t call 911 for help if you are locked out of your house (unless the lock out is connected to an actual emergency, like a fire)—the police and/or fire department aren’t going to come to your rescue. Finally, if you happen to notice that an upstairs window is open, don’t try to access it with a ladder or by climbing onto the roof. You could get hurt. It is better to just be patient and wait for someone with a key (or the professional skills to get you inside) to arrive. Original
